PROGRAM / DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
In Jordan, Mercy Corps has been actively working since 2002 to implement a variety of programs funded by government and private donors. Mercy Corps Jordan’s current portfolio broadly centers on community strengthening and economic development programming. Community strengthening programming focuses on good governance, inclusive education, and youth civic engagement. Economic development programming focuses on enabling environment/ecosystem support, market strengthening, employment and resource management.
Mercy Corps’ proposed The Resilient Youth-Socially and Economically Empowered (RYSE) program is developing a flagship model in which youth, governments, private sector companies, investors and civil society organizations educate and empower youth to become positive change agents and leaders. The RYSE program stands on three objectives. The first objective provides training and pathways for youth to become civically-engaged leaders. The second objective provides a comprehensive approach to help young people obtain the training and support needed to be strong candidates for better jobs. Third objective, the program addresses formal societal structures that prevent youth from actively participating in civil society and the labor market.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY
The Family Mentor will promote the psychosocial well-being of families of youth engaged in a holistic livelihoods model known as the graduation approach. The Family Mentor will work both with Syrian refugee and vulnerable Jordanian households, with a particular focus on youth. S/he will be responsible for providing one-to-one coaching and mentorship for vulnerable households to reinforce positive behaviors, support the resolution of psychosocial needs, and develop the youth and their households’ self-reliance capabilities. The Family Mentor will also manage group meetings and support the delivery of orienting sessions to participants at different points in the program on key topics including positive health-seeking behavior, equitable gender norms life skills (social and health messaging), among others. S/he will link beneficiaries with appropriate services by provision and referral to healthcare facilities, government agencies, and schools to address protection issues including gender-based violence, trauma and mental health, in collaboration with skilled professionals. S/he will work with households with a range of vulnerabilities including extreme poverty, disabilities, gender perceptions, household and social barriers for participation in the labor force. The Family Mentor must possess characteristics necessary to provide strong mentorship, including skills on listening, questioning and reflecting. S/he should build rapport, have empathy, be solutions-oriented and can help guide participants towards finding their own solutions to problems they face. Finally, the Family Mentor will sensitize areas related to protection and emergency cases communicate and report accordingly.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
General Responsibilities
● Providing assessment of the needs of the program participants and their families, including screening for eligibility and suitability, and to ensure safety measures related to COVID 19.
● Support in contacting assigned households to schedule initial visit
● Conducting initial household visits which include the administration of a household survey provided by the project
● Conduct frequently (i.e. weekly, bi-weely, monthly, etc. depending on the project management requirements) home visits in a team of two for each household in the caseload and ad hoc visits if the participant required additional support.
● Engage members of the household to explain the program interventions and goals in detail.
● Support mapping service providers in the program implementation locations in close coordination with the project team.
● Support the families with protection referral services in coordination with the relevant specialist within the organization

COACHING/ MENTORING
● Provide one-on-one and group mentoring and coaching to increase the psychosocial well-being, self-efficacy, and resilience of all households including in-crisis intervention, healthy relationships, constructive coping, resiliency, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
● Build awareness on key social issues e.g. education and school dropout, child labor, child marriage, gender equal practices within the household, basic legal awareness and women empowerment.
● Build awareness on key health issues e.g. food security, safe drinking water, balanced diet, hygienic practices, reducing vulnerabilities to diseases
● Support households in development of social networks and encourage community participation and activities to build social cohesion.
● Facilitate community groups and meetings, support with financial literacy and solving debt,
● Guide participants through challenges, either related to the program or communities and their families
● Mentor participants, boost confidence, and encourage positive world views and coping mechanisms
● Link participants with basic services including health, education, safety nets, and community support groups, with the guidance of Project Managers

Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) and Reporting
● Verify households’ contact information received from national databases and reporting on the results using RYSE-provided templates and protocols either on-line template or hard copies.,
● Ensure the completeness, accuracy and quality of related data collected for the assigned household case management
● Upload accurate households’ data to the information management system
● Monitor participant progress through individual meetings to ensure that they are on track to meet related Graduation outcomes
● Support in data collection, monitoring, and evaluation efforts in coordination with MEAL units;
● Provide monthly, quarterly progress reports in addition to reporting against Key performance indicators.
● Coordinate with the broader technical unit in Jordan to share best practices and lessons learned

SECURITY
● Ensure compliance with security procedures and policies as determined by country leadership;
● Proactively ensure that team members operate in a secure environment and are aware of policies.

● As part of Mercy Corps’ commitment to organizational learning and in support of our understanding that learning organizations are more effective, efficient and relevant to the communities they serve, we expect all team members to commit 5% of their time to learning activities that benefit Mercy Corps as well as themselves.

● Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our beneficiaries and to international standards guiding international relief and development work, while actively engaging beneficiary communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects;
● Team members are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC's policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None
ACCOUNTABILITY
Reports Directly To: RYSE Project Manager
Works Directly With: RYSE project staff, RYSE project participants, and RYSE project implementing partners and stakeholders.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
● Bachelor’s degree in psychology, psychological counseling or social work. A masters would be an advantage.
● Minimum 2 – 3 years of experience in a relevant field.
● Previous experience in the direct provision of one-on-one and group counseling and PSS services to vulnerable groups, including refugees. Experience providing family therapy and coaching or other protection interventions, such as case management, is an advantage.
● Previous relevant experience in delivering training sessions is an advantage
● Previous relevant experience in social work is an advantage
● Knowledge and experience applying cognitive behavior therapy approaches a plus.
● Understanding of protection issues affecting vulnerable families and youth (including GBV and child protection), and interventions for addressing these issues a plus.
● Experience with youth-based programming, especially with vulnerable youth including refugee youth a plus.
