As the official representation of Switzerland accredited in both the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Iraq, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic, and financial affairs, humanitarian aid, development cooperation, legal arrangements, science, education, and culture.
Political Analyst – 100 %
The Embassy of Switzerland in Jordan is looking for a political analyst to reinforce its diplomatic affairs unit, with a focus on political analysis and reporting.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Political Analyst is working as a local employee of the Embassy team under the overall guidance of the Head of Diplomatic Affairs. The list of tasks includes the following:
- Political reporting on Jordan and Iraq;
- Briefing and advising the Ambassador and other colleagues on regional and local developments;
- Maintaining and using a large network in Jordan and Iraq to advance the interests of Switzerland;
- Management of the Embassy small grants program;
- Organization of and participation in official missions to Iraq;
- Various tasks in relation with diplomatic affairs.
Profile & Requirements
- Master degree in international relations, political science, contemporary history or a related field;
- In-depth knowledge of regional political dynamics (mainly Jordan and Iraq)
- Proven track record/experience in political analysis and profound understanding of the political landscape in Jordan and Iraq
- Established network with personalities in various fields (politics, economy, civil society, diplomatic community) in Jordan and Iraq;
- Knowledge of Swiss interests in the Middle East and awareness about Switzerland’s political system and experience in the diplomatic field are of advantage;
- Excellent written and oral command of English and Arabic;
- Knowledge of one or several official languages of Switzerland (German, French, Italian) is an advantage
- Proven written and verbal communication skills, including advanced editorial skills;
- Analytical sharpness and succinctness, high political awareness;
- Able to work under pressure and to embrace challenges;
- Willingness to take responsibility, ability to work autonomously;
- Team player and service orientation;
- Basic knowledge and experience in project management is an asset;
- Readiness to travel to Iraq (with adequate security set-up provided);
- Cultivated appearance, sense for protocol;
- Solid computer skills (MS Office).
